About the project.

The bishop of the area commissioned the Cultural Center Ondjiva for multifunctional purposes, and it now functions as a lively hub for intellectual and cultural interchange in Ondjiva, Angola. The centre’s flexible facilities, which include a library, forum areas, and pavilions, are intended to support a wide range of activities such as conferences, exhibitions, and community events. However, the architectural highlight is its consideration of the region’s harsh environment, which is characterized by excessive sun radiation and arid circumstances. To address these issues, the design stresses shade by strategically placing tall columns that generate rhythmic shadow patterns while also allowing for natural cross-ventilation. Furthermore, the centre’s modular layout enables future extension and growth, assuring its continuous relevance and effect in the neighbourhood.

Added value.

  1. The Cultural Center Ondjiva serves as a versatile space for various cultural and intellectual activities, providing a platform for community engagement and enrichment

  2. The design addresses the region’s extreme climate conditions

  3. With an open-ended layout that allows for potential expansion, the centre remains flexible and responsive to the evolving needs of the community
