About the project.

Feira House is a magnificent house situated in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. This home features a highly functional and dynamic layout, maintaining constant contact with the outdoor spaces and the garden. It boasts an exceptional level of construction and finishes, providing ample space with various distinct environments, and ensuring natural light in all rooms.

The house includes a splendid living room, a spacious dining room, a large kitchen, and multiple bedrooms. Outside, a fabulous garden and an orchard area afford the property unobstructed views while also preserving its privacy.

Story behind the design.

The story behind the Feira House is all about blending tradition with contemporary living. Conceived as a haven for a young family yearning for the peace of countryside living without sacrificing urban conveniences. The design was guided by a vision to create a harmonious retreat. Central to the couple’s aspirations was the integration of traditional elements, such as clay tiles, into a modern architectural framework.

The result is a striking composition of volumes, with a subtle rotation towards the south, strategically positioned to optimize natural light and create a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a discreet entrance, leading to a pathway flanked by stone and wood, offering glimpses of the verdant garden beyond.

Stepping inside, the spatial arrangement unfolds organically, with private quarters on one side and social spaces on the other. The transition between these zones is marked by subtle design cues, such as floating roofs and hidden frames, which imbue the interiors with a sense of openness and fluidity. The dining area, nestled between the kitchen and living space, serves as the heart of the home, offering panoramic views of the outdoors and inviting natural light to cascade in from above.

As the seasons change, the design reveals its thoughtful nuances, with the winter solstice marked by a mesmerizing interplay of light, as rays filter through the kitchen and exit through adjacent windows, casting a warm glow throughout the space. It’s these moments of natural beauty and tranquility that define the essence of the Feira House—a modern sanctuary rooted in tradition, where every detail is crafted to enhance the experience of living in harmony with nature.
